Slim fit or Regular fit, which fit is right for you?

Knowing which fit suits your personal preferences as well as your body characteristics will help you optimize your style in the eyes of the other person.

What is Regular fit and Slim fit?

  •  Regular fit: standard or traditional fit, giving the wearer a comfortable and pleasant feeling. The style is loose, allowing for comfortable movement while covering most of the body’s flaws.
  • Slim fit: this fit is gently tighter than usual. On a suit, usually the chest, waist, sleeves of the suit jacket and the thighs, knees, and openings of the suit pants are designed to hug the body more closely. This fit gives a modern look, highlighting the wearer’s body curves, while creating clearer lines. However, it can also emphasize the wearer’s body flaws.

Never wear a suit so tight that you can see the X when you button it like this.

Which fit is for people who are too big/too thin?

The answer may surprise you. Not only slim fit, regular fit or even relaxed fit is the perfect fit for imperfect body types. Slim fit only emphasizes the weakness of the body, by showing others your real body more clearly. On the contrary, regular fit/relaxed fit allows the body to “breathe” comfortably inside the suit, and thanks to the wider cut of the chest and shoulders, thin people will look fuller, big people will have enough room for the waist to curve deeper, creating an aesthetic hourglass shape.

Not only that, even if you have some defects such as bow legs, big calves, too small shoulders, big belly, a slightly loose fit and a proper cut treatment by an experienced tailor will also ensure that those are hidden. In general, only people with perfect body proportions, without many body defects should wear slim fit.

Of course, even if you have a perfect body, few flaws, and still want to pursue a slim fit style, the level of slimness should not be too extreme. Because natural fabrics usually do not have much elasticity, if the suit is too tight there will be no room to move. Always keep in mind that everything is best when it is balanced, too much of anything is not good.
